NCEITA Receives Third Federal Earmark for RALEIGH, N.C. -- The North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association (NCEITA) Education Foundation recently received a federal special appropriation of $250,000 thanks to Congressman Howard Coble. The funds will be used to implement the technology plans of a rural or underserved elementary school in the 6th Congressional District with complete technology tools including intensive teacher training, hardware, software and connectivity. NCEITA received a federal earmark in FY 2002 and FY 2003 from the U.S. Department of Education to implement similar school technology demonstration projects at Efland-Cheeks Elementary School in Efland, N.C. and Oak Lane Elementary School in Hurdle Mills, N.C. These successful efforts drew the attention and support of Congressman Coble and he worked quickly to secure the FY 2004 funding. "We are extremely grateful for Congressman Howard Coble's support" said NCEITA President & CEO, Joan Myers. "As North Carolina's most senior Congressional Representative, we appreciate his vision and understanding of how important technology is to our schools-especially in preparing our students to be globally competitive in today's marketplace." "In this digital age, it is important that all children have access to the most up-to-date technology no matter where their school is located," said Congressman Howard Coble. "Some rural schools - including those in the 6th Congressional District - have not been wired with the latest educational hardware and software. That is why I felt it was important to secure this quarter-of-a-million dollar NCEITA grant which will provide these modern tools to an underserved rural school in our district. It doesn't matter where the classroom is located; all of our children deserve the best education we can provide. I am pleased that we were able to secure this funding so that at least one more school in our district can join the new digital age." About NCEITA: Paid for by Coble for Congress |
